Who we are
Thanks for stopping by!
I’ve been a professional musician for nearly 20 years. A fulfilling and remarkable journey so far.
Along the way I've also had my fair share of experience in audio engineering, guitar repair, studio recording, and generally building and fixing stuff. When I started playing gigs ya showed up with a deluxe reverb, threw a 57 on it, and off you went. Now you get 2 XLR cables from FOH and you’d better not make too much noise while plugging your Helix in. What I’ve learned on this side of the digital onslaught is what I’ve always known:
Tube amps plugged into speakers moving air across a microphone diaphragm and sending electricity through a great mic pre still sounds the best.
But that comes with a bunch of qualifiers and a host of challenges on stage. Am I going to take an iso cab, a 4x12 speaker cab, $5k in mics and 1073 pre’s, load them into a van and wheel them into church with a pallet jack 2 hours before call time to set it up and play 4 songs? Maybe, but I’m old now and my neck hurts.
I’ve found my own way through the maze of 1s and 0s. I love my sounds in the studio and I’ve captured digital snapshots of my gear in meticulous detail. It’s not some EQ’d, compressed, refined, enhanced version of a sound. The IRs available here reflect what the cab sounds like in a room, into a microphone, into a preamp. I’ve got a bunch of IRs from the heavy hitters and I like mine more. Maybe it’s effort bias, or familiarity, or delusion, but I like them and I thought you might too. What took me 20 years to accomplish you can have in 20 seconds for $10. I shoulda went to law school instead. Enjoy! -Austin
